Samia ltaief
Tunis Governorate
is Trade unionist in the Tunisian General Labor Union, Deputy General Secretary of the General Health
Federation and a member of the Socio-Economic Forum in Tunisia The League strengthened and
supported the capabilities of women wherever they are and believed in what we say in Tunisian: “the
women of my country, are women and a half ...”
My beginnings with the League Of Tunisian Women Voters, was as a beneficiary of training and courses in
many fields, such as electoral law, human rights, leadership, advocacy, gender, and observing elections
from a gender point of view at the short and long term. I became a mentor after my participation in a
training course to form the mentors provided by the League within the framework of its program
“Empowering Women for Leadership Roles” in partnership with The Danish Federations Forum, that
enabled me to train many trade unionists to be leaders.
The League provided me and the rest of the beneficiaries, training sessions in order to be truly prominent
leaders, not only at the political or union level but also at a general and professional one. We became
able to defend our rights for leadership positions and to be decision-makers in our work.
Fear disappeared through the knowledge we acquired, and we became self-aware of our rights, each one
of us on her own filed. Samia emphasizes that due to the diversified and intensive trainings in various
regions of the country, women have been able to reach out for leadership positions
